Building Fallout Shelters
A couple of videos about building fallout shelters. One is making a makeshift shelter on the fly so to speak, the other is about building a more sophisticated one in advance. First the makeshift:

Next is this old Cold War era film called Walt Builds a Fallout Shelter. This was in the era where we had a real civil defense corp that helped Americans become self reliant. It is aimed at homeowners with a basement but you can do this in any area you have access to. A lot of nitty gritty detail on the actual construction which in today’s money would probably cost a few grand if you’re very frugal.

If you live in a big city many apartment buildings and office built before the 90s will technically be fallout shelters (some will still have the signs up) and some will have the odd structures in them. The used to also have food and water in them and many a “urbex” enthusiast will have run into the now spoiled supplies.
