A Few Medical Resources For Preppers
Some inexpensive or free resources to prepare you to be your own first responder
I’m working on some longer things for this newsletter so this will be short. Over the weekend I found my CPR and First Aid certifications for working with kids - I was certified for infant and toddler CPR and first aid and for 5-9 year olds. I got this training for free because when I worked with kids I did so with non-profit programs but Red Cross trainings are still relatively inexpensive. Online courses start at $35 so it’s a cost effective way to get the basics of first aid and CPR down.
There’s a book called Where There is No Doctor designed to help educate “village health workers” in what we consider primitive settings. It’s a bit condescending and heavy on mid 90s style anti-capitalist theories - for example sections claim that uneven distribution of a villages wealth (?) lead to all sorts of sicknesses - but overall there is some good information and best of all it’s available as a free .pdf
Doom and Bloom who host a podcast and run a store have a great book called The Survival Medicine Handbook which is also available in .pdf form for free. It’s written by a doctor and nurse husband and wife team. I was actually on a early episode of their podcast (November of 2011 I believe) which you can’t find now because they were disappointed with me. I predicted hyperinflation and spikes in crime in the coming decade with a uptick in political instability. Boring and unrealistic I reckon.
And finally, a lot of you are buying tourniquets and they’re a bit harder to use than you think. Here’s a video to get you started on mastering them:
I encourage you to get all the medical training you can afford.
